ESTES PARK - While business may be booming for some in Estes Park, others in the lodging industry say it's only getting worse.

Brynwood on the River on Moraine Ave claims 95 percent of the people who had reservations from September to December canceled.

"We'll be about $125,000 down," explained Brennan Newberry, the General Manager. "All the cabins are empty and the phones aren't ringing."

Meanwhile, other businesses are continuing to boom after state highways leading to Estes Park were reopened. The downtown area was packed with shoppers on Black Friday.

"I think they're just coming up for the day and trying to support the stores and they don't realize the lodging is hurting, too," Newberry said.

Newberry said Brynwood on the River is now offering discount rates to customers. However, she said some potential customers are taking advantage of the dire situation by emailing multiple lodges demanding what theywant and how much they'll pay for it.

"A note said something to the effect of, 'Wouldn't you rather make a hundred dollars a night than nothing? I just hit delete," Newberry said. "People don't understand that we need to make a living still."
