KUSA - 9NEWS was overrun with requests from viewers about "Buddy the dog" Wednesday morning.
Buddy is a husky who lives in the 2800 block of West 66th Place in Denver. He gained notoriety based on a Facebook page that already has more than 2,700 "likes." 9NEWS started to investigate the claims by alerting the authorities.
Adams County Animal Control went to check on Buddy Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. They said they get calls about Buddy year round and are out there several times a year to make sure he is happy and healthy and that his shelter is in good condition.
Buddy also gained Internet traction over the summer, when the same Facebook page claimed he was being left outside without any shade in the extreme heat.
The Facebook page pleads for people to call Animal Control and Adams County authorities to check on the dog. 9NEWS did exactly that and got a response about the welfare check around 10:30 a.m. They could not go sooner due to the heavy snow falling on Denver Wednesday morning.
Adams County officials say they did not find any signs of abuse or neglect in the past, and they did not find any signs of abuse or neglect Tuesday night or Wednesday morning when they checked on him.
Because Buddy is a husky and because he is outdoors often and has a shelter available to him, Adams County Animal Control said they believe he can weather the cold temperatures.
