Pet door burglar arrested in Douglas County

KUSA-  A woman who investigators say broke into homes through a pet door was arrested in Douglas County.

On November 29, deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to an in-progress burglary in Highlands Ranch.

The homeowner was awakened by the suspect, chased her outside and detained her until investigators arrived.

20-year-old Mackenzie Mavis was arrested on numerous charges including 2nd degree burglary, crimes against at risk adult,theft and criminal mischief. She's being held on a $50,000 bond.

The Sheriff's Office says there have been several reports of pet door burglaries, where the suspect crawled through a pet door to steal valuable items. Investigators say it's possible there are more victims.
