DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - Seasonal closures to protect wintering deer and elk take effect Friday in Durango.
The Durango Herald reports the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the city of Durango close the public lands every year.
Closures include Grandview Ridge, Animas City Mountain and Twin Buttes. Perins Peak Wildlife Area west of Durango closed Nov. 18.
Areas of the state where elk and deer calve can remain closed to the public until June.
The city of Durango and the BLM base the closure of wildlife areas on Colorado Parks and Wildlife estimates of elk and deer populations.
