KUSA - Following his time on the basketball court for Kansas - from 1981-85 - Tad Boyle has, instead, been trying to beat those same Jayhawks. He was unsuccessful as a head coach until Saturday.
"Deep, deep down I have some Jayhawk in me," he said, though he also asserted that his heart remains all black and gold.
Boyle was previously 0-4 against KU including a disappointing 36-point defeat last season.
The fourth-year Buffs head coach has led his team to three consecutive 20-win seasons - a mark that no other coach in Colorado history can claim. Boyle has also guided them to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths and was given a contract extension that will keep him in Boulder until 2018.
But for all the accolades and success, this 75-72 victory - and his lack of success against the Jayhawks on prior occasions - is a little added bonus.
"It's special, but that's kind of worn off, I think it's the fifth time we've played them, but this is the first time we've beat them so that makes it really sweet," he continued.
