DENVER - Stephanie O'Malley was appointed as the head of public safety for the City and County of Denver on Monday.
O'Malley, a former Clerk and recorder for Denver, currently serves as Deputy Chief of Staff to Mayor Michael Hancock, who made the appointment.
The oft-controversial position, formerly dubbed "Manager of Safety," has undergone some rebranding.
O'Malley's official title will be "Executive Director of the Department of Safety."
The function she will serve in the city's government will be the same, to provide civilian oversight to the Denver's police and fire services.
O'Malley will take the reins from the interim director on Jan. 1.
