GOLDEN - Ice is causing some unusual problems in Golden. Parts of Clear Creek froze so quickly last week, that there are few good places for flowing water to go.
Over the weekend, water underneath the ice starting pouring into parts of town. Tuesday, the head of the town's public works, Dan Hartman, said the danger is lowering because the water has now found a place to flow within the regular creek route. However, the situation is still not completely safe.
A baseball park next to the creek now looks a lot more like a skating rink. Some nearby trails will have to remain closed for the time being.
There is a slight worry about the possibility of "ice dams" breaking upstream and sending a quick rush of water down. Hartman says even if that happens, the result shouldn't be too bad.
