KUSA - The Highlands Ranch home of the suspected gunman who took his own life at Arapahoe High School after shooting one student was being searched by multiple agencies Friday.

The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Karl Pierson.

The home is located in a subdivision near Sugarstone Circle and Buttonhill Court.

Investigators, including ATF agents, went inside the home and gave the "all clear" to fellow officers shortly after entering. Agents were seen talking to the suspect's family members.

The Arapahoe County bomb squad was on scene late Friday evening.

Pierson was described by neighbors as a "nice young man." Online, Pierson looks like a happy student. A routine winner in speech and debate contests.

He's often seen posing with 1st and 2nd place trophies. He also ran cross country. Two years ago, he was working on an Eagle Scout project.

9NEWS interviewed Pierson seven years ago in a story about the design on the new Colorado quarter.

Pierson asked a question at a U.S. Senate debate in 2010 and submitted questions for the 9NEWS Your Show program in 2008 about the Colorado Supreme Court.

A seemingly well-rounded kid who for some reason showed up to school with a shotgun to possibly take revenge against his speech and debate coach, according to Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson.

What happened with Pierson and the coach isn't clear.

Pierson's mother was not at home Friday when a search warrant was served.
