The fire took place in a building on Cherry Street just north of Kentucky Avenue in Glendale.
Denver Fire, which responded, says the major portion of the fire has been knocked down at of 1:30 a.m. The building where the fire seemed to start was under construction at the time, so no one was in the building at the time of the fire.
Fire officials say the blaze did not spread to other buildings.
Residents in nearby buildings have been evacuated as a precaution. The Glendale Sports Complex at Infinity Park has been opened as an evacuation center.
The flames could be seen as far away as Castle Rock. Castle Rock is about 28 miles away from the fire site.
