USA TODAY - What's worth watching, and what might not be, in prime time on Monday.
Disney's Prep & Landing/Prep & Landing 2: Naughty Vs. Nice | ABC, 8 ET/PT
We're deep into the animated holiday special season, as five of them compete for your attention tonight. In addition to ABC's amusing duo, you have Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas (9 ET/PT) and DreamWorks Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury (9:30 ET/PT) on Fox, and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer (8 ET/PT) on CW. Yes, it's overkill, but it's only once a year - and it's not like the ABC or CW specials are pre-empting anything great.
How I Met Your Mother | CBS, 8 ET/PT
CBS' lineup is all new, kicked off by a show that by this point could be renamed How We Stretched a Concept Past Its Breaking Point. Tonight, Marshall finally arrives at the Inn, so at least that story is ending.
Hostages | CBS, 10 ET/PT
The network's evening ends with Hostages, or How I Did or Didn't Kill The President. This is the show's last outing before the January finale, making it as good a time as any to thank CBS for actually giving it a real finale. Hostages never lived up to the promise of its pilot. Or perhaps some of us saw more promise in the pilot than was actually there. But it did attract a fair number of viewers, and it's good for them - and for the long-term health of the short-run format - that CBS let the series run to its conclusion.
