TELLER COUNTY - They may not have gotten as much attention in June of 2012, but people in Teller County fought two dozen fires in just one week.

Waldo Canyon in Colorado Springs was also burning at the time.

Tuesday, Teller County investigators said they have a person of interest in the case, but no arrests have been made.

"We feel he is a viable suspect that we are working with," Teller County Sheriff Lt. Marc Porcelli said.

There were a total of 33 fires. Investigators say 25 of the fires are considered arson.

"Most of them were small," Porcelli said. "Locals spotted them. Most of them were close enough in proximity they could be spotted pretty quickly."

Investigators say they have spoken with the man they say is a person of interest but won't say anything else about him.

"We all believe this was a rash of incidents that started pretty much without real threat to life," Porcelli said. "This person limited the incidents where we could get to the fires. It was more of an attention getter."

Arson cases are difficult to investigate.

"There is a lot of circumstantial evidence. We don't have someone that saw him start the fires," Porcelli explained.

It will be up to the district attorney's office whether to proceed with charges. There is no timeline as to when and if that will happen
