BERTHOUD - The Berthoud police chief resigned amid an investigation into the department's handling of child abuse allegations against a former Berthoud officer.
Chief Glenn Johnson submitted his resignation Monday. He was placed on paid administrative leave in October.
Berthoud officer Jeremy Yachik, 35, was arrested Oct. 23 after a video of him allegedly beating his teenage daughter surfaced. According to an affidavit, the 15-year-old was being punished for eating carrots from the refrigerator.
The video was recorded by Yachik's ex-fiance, Ashley St. Roberts, 26. She accused Chief Johnson of covering up the video. Loveland Police are conducting a criminal investigation into the matter.
Yachik was fired October 31. So far, no charges have been filed against Johnson.
