KUSA - A Colorado State Patrol trooper was seriously injured when a passing car slammed into her parked patrol car Thursday night.

It happened on Interstate 70 in Adams County around 10:45 p.m. Trooper Adeline Roybal was parked on the left shoulder investigating a crash when a Ford van hit her patrol car. A second patrol vehicle, parked in front of her, was also struck by the van.

The driver of the van, 40-year-old Ricardo Guzman, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. His passenger sustained moderate injuries.

Both patrol vehicles had their emergency lights activated at the time of the crash.

Troopers suspect Guzman was going too fast for conditions. Drugs and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.

Trooper Roybal was released from the hospital Friday.
