Siberian husky saves owner

KUSA - A man says he owes his life to his dog. He suffered a spinal cord injury while backcountry skiing.

Leonard Somers was skiing near Berthoud Pass last month when he crashed. He fell and the snow caved in around him, trapping him.

Juneau, his 5-year-old Siberian husky, was with him. She laid on Somers to keep him warm. About 20 minutes later, Somers heard voices and told Juneau to get help.

Somers was first flown to St. Anthony's Hospital. He is now at Craig Hospital for Rehabilitation. Juneau is also there, still helping him.

She's now received clearance as a service dog.

Somers will still need help for future expenses not covered by insurance. Donations can be made to the following fund:
