Lakewood police believe this man could be connected to the theft.

UPDATE: As of 6 p.m. Monday, the car was located in Commerce City abandoned. The supplies were inside the car when it was found.

LAKEWOOD - Someone stole a marked Comfort Dental car early Monday morning. It was full of dental supplies for a free clinic on Christmas Eve.

"Who would ever think to take something like that?" "Look at it," Comfort Dental executive Neil Norton said. "[It's] highly visible. We'd never think that would be a problem."

Lakewood police believe a man seen on surveillance footage could be connected to the theft.

The driver of the Comfort Dental car made it easy for the thief. The car was left running while the driver went into a gas station.

"We've done it a thousand times, and I'm telling you now, don't do that anymore," Norton said. "It's not a very good thing apparently."

"We had lab cases for existing patients, crows, dentures, and then we had boxes and boxes of supplies that we use for charity day [Tuesday]. Supplies are destined for several of our local offices, things like gnaws and sutures, anesthetic and things like that," he continued.

Comfort Dental says it's not about the money. The theft will make it challenging to serve as many people as they hope to on Tuesday.

"We're going to have to scramble and cover supplies from other offices. Hopefully we can get our supply company to send us some more emergency backup," Norton said.

In 2012, Comfort Dental helped 6,000 patients for free. In 2013, it's hoping for more.

"It is Christmas, and we could really use that stuff back for tomorrow. Please just drop if off at one of our offices or call us. We'll meet you somewhere. Please get us our stuff back so people don't have to suffer," Norton said.

If you have information that would assist detectives in their investigation, please call the Lakewood Police Department at 303-987-7111.

All of the Comfort Dental locations will be offering free dental care on Christmas Eve.  The event runs from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.  For a list of the locations, go to www.comfortdental.com.
