ARVADA - It started as a small department effort to save Christmas for families who didn't have much.
"We'd run on calls to families during the holidays. We noticed they wouldn't have anything under the trees, so guys would pitch in some money, go out and get them gifts," Arvada Fire Lt. Mike Kulp said.
The Arvada Fire Department has been helping Santa for 12 years. The gifts are collected all year long. Families, friends and schools help the department find families in need.
The effort is growing. The department delivered to 40 families this year.
"It makes my Christmas," firefighter Scott Johnson-Myers said. "I feel awesome doing it every year."
