PUEBLO - Pueblo Police say two people were killed after an early morning apartment fire on Christmas Day.
The Pueblo Fire Department was dispatched to the 300 block of East Evans on reports of a structure fire at 4:36 a.m. When they arrived, crews found a three-unit apartment complex engulfed in flames.
The third apartment housed a grandmother, mother and two children. Pueblo Police say the grandmother and 5-year-old escaped, but the mother, 25-year-old Natasha Fiore, and 3-year-old Elijah Pino were killed as a result of the fire.
The grandmother was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition. The 5-year-old was air-lifted to a Colorado Springs hospital for the fire-related injuries.
A firefighter was also transported to a local hospital with injuries. His condition is also unknown.
Investigators went in and tried to determine a cause. The Colorado Bureau of Investigations, as well as an arson investigator, were able to rule out arson. Hazmat personnel were called out, and the incident is believed to possibly be drug related.
No significant damage was done to the other two apartment units. Pueblo Fire says the residents in those units had to be evacuated, but no one was injured.
