LARIMER COUNTY- An early morning pickup crash west of Fort Collins killed one person and injured three others, two seriously.

The crash happened about 12:30 a.m. on the south edge of Horsetooth Reservoir near the unincorporated town of Stout, authorities said.

The speeding truck was traveling west on Larimer Road 38E when it lost control on a right-hand turn and swerved off the left side of the road, crashed across a small dirt road and into a fence surrounding a utility building, the Colorado State Patrol said.

"It went out of control and went off the left side of the road and rolled multiple times ejecting all four occupants," said CSP Cpl. Delbert McFarland.

One person was pronounced dead on scene, and two others were flown by helicopter to the hospital. A fourth person with less-serious injuries was transported to the hospital by an ambulance, authorities said.

Because all four were ejected, CSP suspects no one was wearing a seat belt, McFarland said. Alcohol intoxication is being investigated as a contributing factor, he said.

The truck destroyed a road sign and a stand of mailboxes as it rolled. The Chevrolet Silverado has Texas plates. CSP troopers said they were still making victim notifications and could not yet release details about the people hurt in the crash.
