KUSA - Summit and Clear Creek counties responded Friday to an avalanche on Loveland Pass.
The slide occurred at 12,000 feet on the south side of the pass. A snowboarder's sharp eye noticed something that was out of place.
"He found the ski pole sticking out of the snow, and when he pulled the guy's ski pole, he noticed it was still attached to the skier's hand," Scott Toepfer with the Colorado Avalanche Center said. "He was able to dig the the skier out."
The area is under a heightened avalanche risk, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
