DENVER- Volunteering for the Salvation Army is a family affair for Merril Fie.
The 85 year old has been standing by a red kettle and ringing the familiar bell in Denver for nearly 60 years.
Fie owned one of Colorado's oldest businesses, Deep Rock Water, and began bell ringing with fellow CEO's in 1956.
Since then he has never missed a bell ringing shift.
"It's just part of me and part of the season and, you know, people like to see someone that smiles," he said.
This year he was joined by his two daughters and his six grandchildren.
In addition to bell ringing for almost 60 years, Merrill Fie has served on the organization's advisory board for close to 40 years.
