MONTROSE, Colo. (AP) - A Montrose prosecutor suspected of driving drunk and crashing into a power pole last month is no longer employed by the district attorney's office.
According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, 7th Judicial District Attorney office spokeswoman Sherry McKenzie would not specify whether deputy district attorney John Mehlig was fired or if he resigned. McKenzie said only that Mehlig would be "separated" from his job effective Tuesday.
Mehlig had been on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. The 60-year-old prosecutor was arrested Nov. 17 in Montrose on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and careless driving.
Mehlig has a court date scheduled in February.
