(DENVER)- Paul Stastny will trade his Colorado Avalanche sweater for the U.S. hockey crest this February.
The Avalanche forward, and former Denver Pioneer, was among the 25 players selected to the United States Olympic hockey team. The announcement was made shortly after the NHL's Winter Classic in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Stastny was also a member of the 2010 Olympic team that won a silver medal in Vancouver.
Stastny has been one of Colorado's strongest players thus far, with 11 goals and 14 assists through 37 regular season games. He is the only Avalanche player to be selected to Team USA.
The American side has not won gold in men's ice hockey since the "Miracle on Ice" at the 1980 Games in Lake Placid, NY.
