THORNTON - The man shot and killed in a police shoot out was identified Friday afternoon.
Wesley Maldonado, 35, was killed following a chase with officers that went from Thornton to Denver and back early Friday morning, according to Thornton Police.
At 11:30 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a possible domestic violence incident where a gun was fired at a location in the 300 block of East 88th Avenue in Thornton. Officers arrived on the scene and saw a vehicle leaving the area. They tried to stop it.
A pursuit started that ended up going into Denver and ended up back at the 300 block of East 88th Avenue.
Thornton police said the Maldonado was driving through the apartment complex and appeared to have intentionally collided with multiple police vehicles.
At that point, police said Maldonado pointed a gun at officers. One Thornton officer and three Denver police officers shot Maldonado, according to Thornton Police.
Maldonado later died.
Some residents of the Thornton apartment complex said officers fired more than a dozen shots at the suspect.
Police believe Maldonado's girlfriend lives at the apartment complex where the incident started.
Wesley has a lengthy criminal history, according to the Colorado Department of Public Safety.
The incident remains under investigation by the Adams County Critical Incident Team.
