JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - "It was difficult the night we informed the parents but it was something we had to do because of what we believe," Pastor Tim Reed explained.

As pastor of First Baptist Church of Gravel Ridge in Jacksonville, Reed chose to revoke troop 542. As a result of that decision, the assistant scoutmaster said the troop was left without a place to meet. "It left us in a big, big hole. We didn't know where we could go," Sean Cass said.

The Boy Scout troop saw numbers go down significantly but the church never stopped holding weekly meetings, they just went without a name or a title. Reed said, "A great part of our mission here is train up the next generation of boys to be leaders."

As of January first of 2014, the church's group has joined Trail Life USA and is known as Troop 1221. Reed added, "Our plans are to continue the legacy of scouting just more under Christian values. It's still about the character and leadership of the boys."
