KUSA - Shane O'Neill and Chris Klute will spend the rest of January training with the U.S. national team, the Colorado Rapids announced Friday.
The Rapids defenders will spend the time in California and Brazil training with the U.S. team at the World Cup prep camp.
O'Neill has come up through the Rapids' development team after growing up in Boulder. The 20-year-old O'Neill started 24 matches this season and has been on the under-20 U.S. national team.
Klute joined the Rapids at the end of the 2012 season, and started 30 games in 2013 at left back.
The U.S. national team will open training Monday in Carson, Calif., and then travel to Sao Paulo for two weeks of practices. The team will return to Carson on Jan. 27 and play Korea Republic in an international friendly Feb. 1.
The 2014 World Cup opens June 12 in Brazil with the finals July 16.
