KUSA - The flu is now widespread in 25 states, including Colorado. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released its latest flu report, which is for the week of Dec. 22 to 28, on Friday. The week prior, just 10 states had widespread activity and Colorado's flu activity was classified as regional.

So far, this flu season in Colorado, 448 people in 34 counties have been hospitalized with the virus. Those numbers are from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Their testing shows virtually all influenza viruses currently circulating in Colorado are the 2009 H1N1 virus. The good news is there have been no influenza-associated pediatric deaths. The department does not track adult deaths related to the flu.

The counties with the most flu hospitalizations are:

Adams: 55

Arapahoe: 80

Boulder: 11

Denver: 81

Douglas: 23

El Paso: 52

Jefferson: 44

Larimer: 14

Mesa: 11

Pueblo: 12

Weld: 27

These numbers reflect hospitalizations reported to the department through Dec. 28, 2013.

On Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, officials with the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment announced they have more cases than what the state is currently reporting. They say 34 Larimer County residents have been hospitalized with the flu.

9Health reporter Dr. John Torres says if you haven't gotten a flu shot, there is still time. He says if it doesn't stop you from catching the virus, it could lessen your symptoms.
