Colo man admits to transporting women for prostitution

NEWARK - A Colorado man admitted Tuesday he was transporting women across state lines for prostitution in New Jersey and other states.

James Roy Smith, 36, also known as "Mister Smith" from Lakewood pleaded guilty to transporting women to work as prostitutes.

According to legal documents, Smith was transporting women between February 2009 and June 27, 2010 in locations including New Jersey, New Mexico, Nebraska and Pennsylvania.

The women were transported between states by air and in a Cadillac Escalade registered to Smith's uncle.

The services were advertised as escort services on Craigslist as well on

Smith said he transported six women from New Jersey to Philadelphia in June 2010.

Smith could face a potential penalty of 10 years in prison and a punishable fine of $250,000.

His scheduled court date is April 29, 2014.
