USA TODAY - Marc Jacobs has tapped Miley Cyrus to be the face of his spring campaign.
Unveiling a brooding Cyrus in a bleak, dark background, David Sims photographed the singer in Los Angeles, alongside models Natalie Westling and Esmerelda Seay Reynolds on a beach set by Stefan Beckman, reports WWD.
Cyrus became pals with Jacobs' business partner, Robert Duffy, "a few years ago," Jacobs tells the fashion site, explaining that the shoot is meant to be "kind of sulky."
He adds that the pop star was a good fit. "We all just love her and her entire being, her energy, her talent, her intelligence, everything. There's nothing I don't like about her. She is just genuine and very natural."
But, WWD notes, Sims is not Jacobs' usual photographer. That's Juergen Teller. But apparently he wasn't a good fit with Cyrus. "I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist," Jacobs tells WWD. "He just didn't want to shoot her."
