MEAD - Mountain View Fire Rescue and Weld County Animal Control crews were able to rescue a dog from a frozen culvert on a frigid, windy Friday morning.
The culvert is half-a-mile south of Highway 66 on County Road 11 in Mead.
The border collie named Flash was stuck about 8-feet inside the culvert outside of the owner's home.
Flash went missing Thursday night.
Flash's owner searched in the dark for hours trying to find him. By Friday morning, the owner went out to get the newspaper and decided to check the culvert "on a hunch."
He found Flash inside the culvert.
Part of the culvert had collapsed, making it impossible to pull him out without the right tools.
Crews had to use a circular saw to open up the metal culvert to pull Flash to safety.
Flash was rescued around 10:30 a.m. and was rushed to the veterinarian to double check that he is OK. His condition is unknown at this time.
