STERLING - A fire in Sterling Monday night has killed 2-year-old boy, according to the Sterling Fire Department.

Sterling Fire Department Chief Kurt Vogel says crews responded to a house fire in the 100 block of State Street Monday evening.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from a bedroom window. When they searched the bedroom, they found 2-year-old Levi Welton in a closet without a pulse and not breathing.

The boy's mother, father and another child escaped the fire. The father suffered burns to his hands.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
