USA TODAY - American Airlines will change the name of its American Eagle regional affiliate to Envoy. The move, which will become official this spring, is one of the most tangible signs yet of the merger integration between AA and US Airways.
American says it's changing the American Eagle name "to give the company its own distinct identity and eliminate the confusion between the company's current name and American Eagle, the regional flying brand of American Airlines."
American says the Envoy name eventually will extend to all of the flights operated by its 10 regional affiliates.
"Our people and our company -- which is one the largest regional carriers in the world with some of the best people in our business -- deserve a name that is all our own," Pedro Fabregas, American Eagle CEO, says in a statement announcing the change. "By taking on the Envoy name, we can better differentiate ourselves from the competition and better market ourselves. This is important for both our people and our company as we further expand our ground handling business."
