KUSA - For the 24th year in a row, the number of students from preschool to 12th grade increased. Right now, 876,999 students are enrolled in Colorado schools representing a 1.6 percent increase from last year.

Denver Public Schools is now officially the largest school district in the state surpassing Jefferson County by only 60 students - 86,043 to 85,983. This is the first time DPS has been the largest school district in the state since the mid-1970s.

Douglas County, Cherry Creek, Adams 12 Five Star Schools, and Aurora Public Schools are next biggest districts in that order.

The largest decrease in students experienced by a district was felt at the Charter School Institute. CSI oversees charter schools all around Colorado and its enrollment dropped by 1,281 students representing 10.9 percent.

Over the years, online programs have been growing. But, this year online schools experienced a decline of 2.5 percent.
