WESTMINSTER - At 2:14 a.m. on Wednesday, Westminster Fire responded to a report of a structure fire in a single family residence in the 10400 block of King CIR in Westminster.

Fire crews found a split-level home with extensive fire and smoke visible from the rear of the house.

The occupants of the house were able to evacuate but the family's dog did not make it out and was found in an upstairs bathroom.

There is extensive fire and smoke damage throughout the house with the majority of the fire damage to the top level, attic and roof. The cause of this fire is unknown at this time.

The Westminster Fire Department recommends following the safety tips for evacuating your home in case of a fire provided by the National Fire Protection Association: http://bit.ly/1hYo4hF.

Once you're out, stay out. Under no circumstances should you ever go back into a burning building. If someone is missing or your pets are still inside, inform the fire department dispatcher when you call. Firefighters have the skills and equipment to perform rescues.
