GRAND JUNCTION - Opening statements began late Wednesday afternoon in the trial for a mom charged in connection with the deaths of her two young children.
Prosecutors say Heather Jensen's sons, Tyler and William, died after she left them inside a running vehicle with the heat on.
They argued that Jensen spent the afternoon with a man after locking the boys in the car in 2012.
Defense lawyers contended Jensen is borderline developmentally disabled and made poor choices after losing her husband.
She's charged with two counts criminally negligent homicide.
Testimony continues Thursday.
