KUSA - It's the sort of invitation that the leader of the free world doesn't get every day, but Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colorado) on Thursday asked President Barack Obama to join him for a tour of a legal marijuana store.
In a letter addressed both to the president and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada,) Polis wrote: "I would like to extend an invitation to both of you to visit Colorado and join me to visit a legal dispensary and grow operation to see how the law is being implemented in the state."
"I am confident that when you see Colorado's work to implement the law while protecting children and raising revenue for our schools firsthand, we can begin to make similar efforts on a federal level," Polis continued.
Polis cited recent statements by both President Obama and Reid taking a favorable view of legalization efforts.
Still, the president standing among marijuana plants could be a hard photo op to sell to the White House.
