Denver police urge residents to stay indoors after teen escapes custody

DENVER - Denver police were urging residents near Downing Street and 28th Avenue to stay indoors Thursday night after a teen escaped police custody.

Police tweeted the teen was being transported to the Gilliam Detention Facility when he escaped. He is facing felony charges.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. He was wearing hospital scrubs and one orange flip flop when he escaped. He has a Rockies tattoo on the right side of this neck.

Officers, a helicopter and a K-9 unit were searching the area for the suspect.

Police said the teen should be considered dangerous. Call 911 immediately if you see him.
