The Broncos Time Machine: 1978
Monday Jan. 27 at 4 p.m.
Jimmy Carter was president, the Bee Gees were at the top of the charts and the Denver Broncos were on top of the AFC after beating the Oakland Raiders in the championship game on New Year's Day 1978.
This sent the Broncos to their first Super Bowl and sent Bronco fans into euphoria.
9NEWS was right in the middle of the "fandemonium" in this Broncos Time Machine report during the leadup to Super Bowl XII.
The Broncos Time Machine: 1987
Tuesday Jan. 28 at 4 p.m.
Remembers the 80s? The Broncos do. They went to the Super Bowl after three different seasons in the 1980s (1986, 1987 and 1989).
That first trip featured a rising young star named John Elway, who joined his teammates to nearly fill the old Mile High Stadium, and that was just for a pep rally.
9NEWS was there to capture the atmosphere at the beginning of the John Elway Era.
The Broncos Time Machine: 1990
Wednesday Jan. 29 at 4 p.m.
Those who think it's worse to go all the way to the Super Bowl and lose rather than not go at all have never met an enthusiastic group of Broncos fans.
In this installment of our Broncos Time Machine, the year was 1990 and the Broncos were back in the big game for the third time in four years.
Our story from the day Denver earned a trip back to the Super Bowl is proof that hope springs eternal in Bronco Country.
The Broncos Time Machine: 1998
Thursday Jan. 30 at 4 p.m.
By the end of the 1997 season, the Broncos looked like a long shot for the Super Bowl. They finished as a wild card team behind Kansas City in the AFC West but went on the road to beat the Chiefs and then the Steelers to earn a trip back to the Super Bowl with John Elway and a young coach named Mike Shanahan.
Fans were just as excited as they were when the Broncos earned their first Super Bowl back in 1978, as you can see in this Broncos Time Machine report.
The Broncos Time Machine: 1999
Friday Jan. 31 at 4 p.m.
For a while, it looked like the Broncos might go undefeated in the 1998 season.
That didn't happen, but the Broncos earned their second straight trip to the Super Bowl by beating the Jets in the AFC Championship. For years, the Broncos held their training camp in Greeley, so 9NEWS northern newsroom reporter Roger Wolfe found lots of Broncos spirit as fans cheered their team on to Super Bowl XXXIII.
