KUSA - Goalie Semyon Varlamov has agreed to a five-year extension with the Colorado Avalanche, the team announced Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 25-year-old Russian is 26-9-5 this season going into Thursday night's game against Minnesota. The 26 wins ties a career high already this season.
He has been named to the Russian national team for the Sochi Olympics. Earlier this season, he was investigated for sexual assault after a confrontation with his girlfriend, but the charges later were dropped.
Varlamov was drafted in 2006 by Washington then acquired by Colorado in July 2011. He is 93-67-23 overall with 12 shutouts and a 2.57 goals-against average.
