SOCHI, Russia - The opening ceremonies of the Sochi Olympic Games are just days away, and 9NEWS' Matt Renoux, Cheryl Preheim and Anastasiya Bolton are already checking out the venues, the sites and the stories before the games.

It's obviously very important to know where you're going before the competitions begin.

Roza Khutor is about an hour on a brand-new train - built specifically for the Olympics - or by an extensive bus network that's been set up for the games.

Once the mountain village looks similar to Vail or Beaver Creek. It's a new resort, especially when you compare it to the ones in Colorado.

The first lift opened in 2010. In 2012, Russia's first ski cup was held here. The resort claims to have the largest snowmaking system in Europe, with base elevation of 3,000 feet and more than 7,000 feet at the top.

Three gondolas take visitors to the very top.

As one volunteer from Mexico told the 9NEWS crew, you can't really comprehend how beautiful it is unless you see it in person.
