DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Boulder shows up on Forbes magazine's list of the best-paying cities for women in the United States.
The magazine, which ranked the 10 best cities for women based on median salary, put Boulder No. 9 on the list. The rankings were generated by data cultivated by the financial literacy website Nerdwallet. The median salary for women in Boulder was $46,800, which is 72 percent of what a man earns.
The San Jose, Calif., area was the best for working women. Women there earn a median income of $56,000, or 74 percent of what a man makes. Laredo, Texas, was the worst city for women; the median income for women was $24,700.
San Francisco, Calif., came closest to closing the gap between what men and women earn. There, the median $54,600 salary for a woman is 84 percent of what a man makes.
