KUSA - 9NEWS viewers keep asking if the recent cold temperatures will kill off the pine beetles infesting the lodgepoles in the high country. Unfortunately, the answer is no.
Entomologists say the deep freeze is too little and too late to affect the bugs. Most of them have already burrowed far into the trees to protect themselves.
It would take temperatures of negative 30 or colder for at least five to seven days to kill them off.
