BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - The Boulder County district attorney has asked for a prosecutor from another district to take over the trespassing and drug case against the son of Colorado Sen. Mark Udall.
The Boulder Daily Camera reported Wednesday that DA Stan Garnett cited his friendship with the Udall family and his involvement in Udall's campaigns. Both are Democrats.
Twenty-six-year-old Jedediah Fox-Udall faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and trespassing.
The sheriff's department arrested Fox-Udall on Jan. 30 after a report that a man was breaking into cars in Eldora Springs, a semi-rural community west of Boulder where his father lives.
Fox-Udall told deputies he was looking for cables to jump-start a car with a dead battery.
He's free on $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 20.
