Slopestyle snowboarding made its Olympic debut Thursday in Sochi with the men's and women's slopestyle snowboarding qualifying rounds.

Americans Jamie Anderson and Karly Shorr topped the women's side in slopestyle snowboarding, giving them a ticket to Sunday's finals.

Snowboarders from Canada, Finland and Norway took the top spots on the men's side.

No major injuries were reported Thursday. Several athletes crashed on the course during training runs earlier this week. A Norwegian snowboarder, who was a medal favorite, broke his collarbone while training on the course and was not able to compete Thursday.

American snowboard star Shaun White dropped out of the event because of the risk associated with the course. He will now focus on the halfpipe event.

Olympic organizers changed the slopestyle course after the crashes during training.

A qualifying round was also held Thursday for women's ski moguls.

Hannah Kearney of Vermont made the first step towards defending her gold in ski moguls. She finished first in the qualifiers.

Eliza Outtrim, who trains in Steamboat springs, finished fourth in ski moguls.

Heidi Kloser of Vail, crashed during the event and was hospitalized with a knee injury.

Team figure skating also made its debut in Sochi on Thursday with the men's and pair's short programs.

Aspen native Jeremy Abbott fell while attempting a quad and didn't try a triple axel. His performance landed him in 7th.

During the pairs competition, Americans Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir finished 5th.
