KUSA - As of Jan. 1, 2014, millions of Americans are either newly insured or experiencing changes with their health insurance and are asking, "how will the Affordable Care Act affect my tax return?"

When it comes to self-prepared tax returns, did you know Americans left more than $1 billion on the table in 2013?

So, how do you make sure you're getting every penny you deserve?

Tax expert Richard Gartland has the answers. Gartland currently serves as a senior tax preparer for H&R Block. With more than 27 years of financial management experience - including time as a financial officer for a 120-person corporation - Gartland became a tax preparer five years ago and his expertise spans from investment income, self-employment, S-corps, rental real-estate and corporate returns.
