CASTLE ROCK - Douglas County authorities are stepping up patrols around Castle Rock schools following a threat made on social media earlier this week.
After the initial threat, several rumors began circulating about threats at multiple schools in the area, according to a Thursday news release.
Although law enforcement does not consider the rumored threats credible at this time, patrols have been increased out of an abundance of caution at Castle View, Douglas County and DC Oaks high schools.
Castle Rock police said a letter sent to parents about the rumored threats should not have been released.
"Information in the letter fuels inaccurate rumors," a Castle Rock PD statement read. "We do understand the principal's desire to inform the student population. We regret that Jim Calhoun did not consult with us prior to releasing that information. The letter is not something we would have approved."
The Castle Rock news release goes onto say rumors regarding suicide pacts were investigated and deemed to be false.
