SOCHI - It's been widely reported -there aren't many Americans at the Sochi games as there were in London or Vancouver. While we don't have hard numbers, the 9NEWS crew in Sochi keeps running into Americans are not friends or family of athletes.

In fact, the crew heard their names right in front of the Bolshoy Ice Dome Saturday night, when several Colorado spectators were heading to the U.S. Russia hockey game.

9NEWS reporter Anastasiya Bolton also caught up with Mike and Amy Hafer from Highlands Ranch. 9NEWS profiled the couple before the Olympics about their upcoming trip to Russia, where they've never been before.

Hafers stopped in Moscow for a few days first, then came to Sochi.

Like many people who couldn't get a hotel room, they stayed on a parked cruise ship just minutes away from the Olympic Park.

They liked the Olympic experience so much-they're planning to go to South Korea for the next Winter Games.

"There's really been no issue. I don't know why the news is showing all these negative things. I don't think we've had any problems at all. We've been very pleasantly surprised at the ease of getting around and negotiating anything," Mike and Amy Hafer said. "The friendliness of the people and the speed on which we can go from the coastal cluster to the mountain cluster. The venues, it's been great."
