ARVADA - It's been a little more than two weeks since an armed stranger broke into an Arvada home, taking a 13-year-old hostage in a tense standoff that lasted more than 16 hours.

The standoff ended when officers shot and killed the suspect, Don Pooley, near the entrance of the Gray Street home.

Christopher Scott, the father of the teen hostage, is speaking out for the first time since the incident occurred because today is a day his family will remember for the rest of their lives.

Scott is an employee at a Home Depot in Lakewood. After hearing about the incident, his co-workers assembled a team to fix the badly damaged home, putting in new doors and a new floor in addition to completely renovating the home Friday.

"I'm very grateful because the home was unlivable," explains Scott, "My sons were staying somewhere else because we were worried about safety."

Scott says his 13-year-old son, who he asked us not to name, is dealing with the traumatic incident very well.

It was too much for the family to return home after the incident but remodeling the home is the step that will allow them to return to normalcy.
