DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Actor Bruce Dern will follow his Oscar-nominated role in "Nebraska" with "The Boat Builder" by Denver author and political strategist Arnie Grossman.
Filming on the movie is expected to begin in April in the Los Angeles area, with a 25-day shooting schedule and a budget of $2 million.
"I'd love to do it in Colorado," Dern said, "but your lakes aren't big enough."
"The Boat Builder" tells the story of Abner, a retired captain in his 70s who longs to return to the sea. He occupies his time by working on the frame of a sailboat that he wants to finish and sail across the Pacific Ocean.
Abner (played by Dern) finds himself befriending a boy about 10 years old who's been shuttled between a series of foster homes.
