DENVER - A utility worker with Denver Parks and Recreation was taken into custody Monday in connection to an attempted murder case.
According to Parks and Rec., Damion Baca, 33, has been an employee for about 8 months. Prior to that, he was an on-call employee since 2010.
Baca was arrested near 11th and Lipan Monday afternoon. Police had a family member pick up his car following his arrest. Police say they arrested Baca on a warrant and say he went with authorities peacefully.
While we know Baca is under investigation for attempted murder, police did not say who he is accused of trying to kill or what the circumstances were.
His family is trying to make sense of it, too.
"We just know he's falsely accused and we don't know of what. He's a good man, he's a father, he's a hard worker, he had a past. But who hasn't?" says India Rodriguez, Baca's cousin.
Baca has a lengthy criminal background. In the past, he has pleaded guilty to charges like assault with a weapon and possessing dangerous drugs.
Denver Parks and Rec did not say what action they will take against Baca.
