Thornton Police say Niver Middle School, located at 9450 Pecos St., was put on a precautionary lockdown around 3:45 p.m., just as students were about to be let out. Officials say teachers had to quickly recall the students and lockdown the school.

The school started releasing the students around 5:30 p.m.

Police say they have no reports of injuries.

Police say an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy in Pecos Park were approached by a man they may have known. He tried to rob them and when they didn't cooperate, he fired shots into the ground.

Police then searched the area and found a man they believe to be the shooter. Jonathon Edward Suarez, 20, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and robbery.
